Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Is Lutheran Social Services of Indiana (LSSI) affiliated with a particular church or denomination?
- A: Yes. LSSI is affiliated with, and recognized by, both the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod as a social ministry organization. As such, LSSI enjoys a unique and dynamic ministry partnership with both and is integral to the mission and ministry of the Church.
- Q: Do I have to be Lutheran to receive services from LSSI?
- A: No. LSSI serves all people, regardless of socioeconomic position, age, race, or religion. You don't have to be Lutheran to seek services from us. In fact, over 80 percent of our clients are non-Lutheran or don't attend church at all.
- Q: What regions in Indiana do you serve?
- A: LSSI's roots are in Fort Wayne, where you'll find our administrative offices. In total, we reach out to people in 22 counties in northern Indiana.
- Q: Is LSSI part of Lutheran Hospital?
- A: No. We are not affiliated with the Lutheran Hospital system. LSSI is a separate, 501(c)3 non-profit organization with its own board of directors.
- Q: How is LSSI funded? Do all your funds come from The Lutheran Foundation?
- A: LSSI is funded by a variety of sources. While we are grateful for the support we receive from The Lutheran Foundation, its contribution makes up 18.4 percent of our revenue. We also receive support from the United Way, local Lutheran congregations, and individual contributors.
- Q: How can I help?
- A: LSSI offers a variety of volunteer opportunities. We welcome volunteers of all ages. E-mail Gary Hemrick or call (260) 426-3347.
